On October 20, 2014, the City Council proclaimed Los Alamitos as a Red Shirt City. Please join us in wearing Red on Fridays in support of our troops.
RED SHIRT FRIDAY
WHEREAS, RED SHIRT FRIDAY is a program designed to honor our deployed and has been in effect since 1945; and,
WHEREAS, the RED SHIRT FRIDAY program was originally designed to show support for World War II veterans and easily displays how proud the public is of their service; and,
WHEREAS, the RED SHIRT FRIDAY program has continued and remains in effect to show support for the sacrifices our servicemen and servicewomen make for our country; and,
WHEREAS, RED stands for “Remember Everyone Deployed” and wearing Red aspires to recognize active duty personnel and veterans, build civic pride, promote understanding of our military personnel, and help in the healing process of our Nation’s heroes.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gerri L. Graham-Mejia, Mayor of the City of Los Alamitos, with the concurrence of the City Council, do hereby proclaim the City’s participation in RED SHIRT FRIDAY and encourage all members of the community to wear red on Fridays to show support for our heroic troops.
