LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. – Senior leaders from Joint Forces Training Base Los Alamitos (JFTB) will detail operational-transition plans for the Olympic-size swimming pool at JFTB during two town hall-style meetings March 3 and 5. The pool’s new management and rate structure will be discussed, as well as long-term renovation plans.
Pool users, including individuals, families, community swim and lap swim program participants, are welcome to participate in the discussions Thursday, March 3, at 6 p.m. and Saturday, March 5, at 10 a.m., in JFTB Building 15, located at 4522 Saratoga Ave.
“We at JFTB and throughout the California National Guard are honored to welcome community members, groups and organizations to this installation for a variety of regular events and activities,” said Air Force Brig. Gen. Nate Reddicks, JFTB commander. “These changes to pool operations and facilities are being undertaken to safeguard that relationship and enable us to maintain and expand our connections with the surrounding communities and our military veterans.”
Beginning March 1, JFTB will resume handling pool operations following the expiration of a 1998 agreement that granted operational control to the City of Los Alamitos. Bringing the pool back into the base’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) program will make it eligible for federal funding sources that JFTB plans to use to upgrade the pool and ensure its safe operation for decades to come. Minimal disruptions in services are anticipated during the transition period.
In addition to other services, the pool and its facilities will be available to rent by the hour, including the option to rent a portion of the pool on a pro-rated basis. All rental fees will be dedicated to aquatic center maintenance and upgrades or base-wide MWR projects.
